The crew sewed late into the night on Monday and everyone was able to make paddle cases for the bus ride and ditty bags for each of their packs! We multi-tasked and while some sewed, others finished putting pack frames together, set up tents to dry, and some went shopping for different mix-ins for their bay bread.
Tuesday we had our baking day, where baked a TON of Hudson Bay bread, browned 60lbs of ground beef, and made many batches of hot chocolate mix and bannock.
Friday we had our food packing day! Theme: America.
We worked on some other skills this week using compasses and maps. We taught them how to navigate by setting a bearing on a compass and we went over the process that goes into a “bush crash” which is essentially a way of making a trail when there is no portage to be found.
Since Crew Olympics is coming up shortly, we did some more practice setting up tarps and coiling paracord! The girls have been practicing their paddling and portaging throughout the week as well! Busy busy busy, not to mention the two dehydrators we have running.
