Hello again!
On Sunday we started off our meeting with a little basecamp tour along with some basecamp rules. We reminded them about the importance of being mindful and respectful of the space at basecamp, i.e., keeping it cleaner than we found it.
After that, we decided to get right into portaging! We taught the gals the steps and motions that go into throwing a canoe on your shoulders. It is always more intimidating than it may seem but it is usually the weight of the canoe that makes traveling long distances a challenge! They did such a great job for their first time! Basically pros. They walked all the way down to the tennis courts which is about a quarter mile. This is a very important skill to master because while on trail, you will be walking through water, mud, marsh, over trees, under trees, between trees, you name it. The canoes are our babies so we have to treat them like one👶🏼👶🏼👶🏼👶🏼👶🏼🛶🛶🛶
Wow look at these guys, they know what they’re doing😤😤💪💪💪
Next, we went inside and went over a few general goals/expectations of what the girls want the crew dynamic to look as well as what they would like from us guides. A few honorable mentions would be creating a supportive group, holding each other accountable, and saying no to foot fung❌🙅♀️
We ended our meeting off at Julia’s crib where we did some paddle sanding so the girls can go get their paddles painted! It was so lovely to meet everyone in person! See ya next week!
