A landmark of the north country 🌲 50 years' worth of Voyageurs have made their pilgrimage to the Sassaginigac Lake fire tower; to carve their names in history and stare across vast canoe country. For the first 3 decades, they climbed to trace their signatures at the top. Now, Voyageurs carve at the bottom (wherever they can find a blank space) ✍️ This tradition often coincides with the crew's halfway resupply, which commonly takes place on Sassaginigac Lake. A few weeks have passed since their return to the states. Zach Fritz and Taylor Rau were both long-time guides for Les Voyageurs (2016-2019 and 2017-2020, respectively). Zach Fritz continued his service as Program Director (2019-2023). Together, they completed one of the most impressive wilderness expeditions in recent history - 4 months and 4,400 kilometers from Northern Minnesota to the Canadian Arctic Ocean. "The Dubawnt River flowed fast and clear like the Kazan, but now entirely treeless. We followed the swift current and shot some rapids until mid-morning when we approached the river's famed canyon section. The river got big quick, and we easily found the exit from the river and began our longest portage of 4km along the rivers' edge, following its spectacular canyon. The river narrows greatly in here and has steep cliff walls and pillars of rock protruding along its course through the canyon. "Expeditions North…Expeditions for Life"

It is the mission of Les Voyageurs to expand the horizons of young people as it challenges their physical, psychological, social and learning skills through an intense outdoor experience. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing a once in a lifetime experience to embark on a 28-day expedition into the remote Canadian wilderness.

The center piece of our program, Expeditions North, provides young people with an extensive outdoor leadership program that includes an expedition of 28 days into remote regions of central and northern Manitoba and Ontario. Each crew consists of seven young people (tenth grade and above) and one or two experienced guides.
